Cloud Hosting

Cloud hosting means running your website or software on a pool of rented servers managed by a provider, instead of on one machine you own. Capacity can be raised or lowered as demand changes, and you usually pay for what you use.

What it means

With cloud hosting, your website or application lives on servers owned by a provider such as AWS, Google Cloud or Vercel, and you rent the capacity. Because the servers are pooled, the provider can add power when you need it and take it away when you do not. A single failed machine does not take you offline, because another one picks up the work.

How it differs from other hosting

  • Shared hosting: many small sites share one server for a low yearly fee. It suits simple brochure sites and slows down when a neighbour gets busy.
  • VPS: a reserved slice of a server with its own resources, covered under VPS.
  • Cloud: flexible capacity billed by use, with options for backups, scaling and several regions.

Why it matters for your business

The choice shapes how your site behaves on its busiest day. A store that gets a trickle of visitors on a normal Tuesday and a flood during a festival sale needs capacity that stretches. It also affects uptime, speed and cost. Cloud pricing is flexible but can surprise you if nobody watches it, so set billing alerts from the first day.

An example

A manufacturing unit in Hosur gives its dealers a web portal to place spare-part orders. The dealers log in mostly on weekdays and the portal is quiet at night, so a small cloud server with a managed database and automatic daily backups costs little and needs nobody on site. Had the portal been hosted on the factory's office computer, a power cut or a broadband fault would have stopped every dealer's order.

How we choose

At VS Tech Builders we deploy projects on Hostinger, Vercel, AWS or Google Cloud, whichever suits the workload, and we hand over the hosting accounts to you on final payment so that you are never tied to us. On our website plans, hosting is bundled into the yearly renewal along with SSL and maintenance. Not every site needs the cloud. A five-page brochure site is fine on modest hosting, and our maintenance cost guide lists what you really pay for each year.

Common questions

Is cloud hosting more expensive than shared hosting?

Usually, yes, and for a simple brochure site it is rarely necessary. Shared hosting is billed as a low yearly fee, while cloud servers are billed by capacity and can cost several times more. The extra money buys speed, flexibility and better recovery from failure. Choose cloud when downtime or slow pages cost you orders, not because the word sounds modern.

Does my data have to stay in India if I use cloud hosting?

Not automatically, but you can choose. Major providers offer data centres in India, including Mumbai, and you can select where your database and files sit. Some sectors, such as banking and certain government work, have location rules, so ask your auditor or regulator before deciding. For most business websites, an Indian or nearby region also gives visitors faster pages.
